Comedian Russell Peters used Channel NewsAsia as a pawn during his stop in S'pore

Peters managed to poke his rivals and backtrack by implying that CNA is not a big enough news channel to take seriously.

And Channel NewsAsia thought it had a world-exclusive scoop.

Comedian Russell Peters was in Singapore this week for a three-day sold-out gig and met host Lin Xueling for an interview on Conversation With last Sunday.

During the interview, Peters told Lin that The Daily Show's new host, Trevor Noah, is "a thief".

It all started with Lin goading Peters by claiming that Noah is "cute and skinnier" than him.

Peters accused Noah for stealing material from him and South African comedian David Kau and liken him to someone "stealing somebody's underwear and putting it on".

Without getting a comment from Noah, CNA and Today decided to publish the spat between the two comedians gleefully.

Only to have Peters dismissing the media reports on his own Twitter account.

And to rub salt into CNA's wounds, Peters poked CNA by claiming that he didn't know people watch Singaporean TV.

The twitter exchange between Peters and Noah appears to show that both were in on "the prank".

But things may not be as simple, for Peters included Kau's name.

Kau had previously accused Noah of stealing his jokes and he posted this tweet around the same time that the news broke.
