Over 200 people attended an afternoon memorial service for founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew at his alma mater, Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge on Sunday, reported The New Paper.
Jointly organised by CUMSA (Cambridge University Malaysia and Singapore Association) -- which Lee was the founding president, and Fitzwilliam College -- the memorial took place at 9pm Singapore time.
The VIPs who attended include Lee's sister-in-law Pamelia Lee, who is married to Lee’s younger brother Dr Lee Suan Yew, a general practitioner, as well as Singapore’s High Commissioner to the UK, Foo Chi Hsia and Fitzwilliam archivist Dr John Cleaver.
Lee had attended law school at the university in 1947.
The university contributed to his formative years as a barrister and it was where he topped his cohort with a rare double starred-first-class honours in law.
He would later secretly marry his wife, Kwa Geok Choo, during his time there, where the couple tied the knot at Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace.
One of the couples favourite locations in Cambridge was the Bridge Of Sighs, a 184-year-old covered bridge that crosses the River Cam.
