And we assume that the Lee family is perfect.
This was because the three children of Lee Kuan Yew are all President’s Scholars and grew up to be leaders in their own fields - politics (Lee Hsien Loong), medicine (Lee Wei Ling) and corporate (Lee Hsien Yang).
In fact, Lee's family is just like any other Singaporean family.
Both Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News reported yesterday that daughter Lee Wei Ling, 60, is as stubborn as her father. In fact, she left home on one occasion in 2002 after a quarrel with Lee.
Lee, who is a neurologist, shared that she was a fitness buff but the elder Lee refused to let her exercise because she has weak bones and might injure herself during strenuous activities.
So how did Lee protest? She refused to give up on sports and left home.
She moved in and stayed at the home of elder brother Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, a move that caught Lee Kuan Yew by surprise.
But the story has a happy ending.
When Lee Wei Ling decided to go mountain-climbing recently, Lee Kuan Yew did not protest and just told her to "be careful".
