Based on six true events.

Given our propensity for trying all ways and means to be the best, it is perhaps no surprise that we smashed a Guiness World Record into smithereens during 2014 New Year's Eve countdown going into 2015 in Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.

Ladies and gannermen, Singapore's name is in the book of records once again for the "Most People Wearing Balloon Hats".

Close to 6,000 party revellers donned this balloon hat, including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The previous record was set in 2007 with 4017 people participating.

Much wow.

This wonderful international recognition joins a list of other distinguished records set by Singapore over the years.

Here goes:

1. Most people making paper aircrafts simultaneously (multiple venues).

BUCKTOOTH BABY 18

A 3.2cm tooth was extracted from Loo Hui Jing by Dr. Ng Lay Choo. That must be some hardcore toothache.

3,918 students decided to turn back the clock and played the biggest 'Pass the Parcel'.  Collectively, they removed 2,200 wrappers from a 1.5 m x 1.5 m x 0.5 m box. Time taken: 2.5 hours. Well done.

6. Largest ant farm.

Set by: Colgate on Dec. 28, 2008.

To prove that brushing your teeth regularly is as important than updating your Facebook, Colgate created the largest ant farm habitat, made up of special gel from China, measuring some 1.2 m in height x 0.9 m in width and 0.08 m in depth.

Some 200 to 300 ants were released and within 24 hours, they did what they do best: creating mini tunnels within the habitat. We don't know if any ants were harmed in the gimmick.
