Where is the shag face?

One of our responsibilities in Mothership.sg is to be a busybody and poke fun at politicians.

One thing we have learnt about poking fun at politicians is that you need proof first, or to borrow Hardwarezone's parlance: NPNT.

When you are the running the annual sweatfest that is the Standard Chartered Marathon, running fast is not good enough.

You have to be human and show all your flaws in front of the camera, especially when you are a politician.

From time to time, some runners try to ham it up when cameras are nearby. The slow runners with shag faces would choose to stay silent, hoping that they would go unnoticed. But, eventually, questions grow too loud, and the issues burst into the open, as they rightly should.

This year, the centre of attention was on Community, Culture and Youth Minister Lawrence Wong. And rightly so. He was taking part in the ekiden race, where six runners do a tag team and complete the full 42.195km, with five other runners, including recently retired football legend Aleksandar Duric.

They were running to raise funds for the SportCares Foundation, which reaches out to disadvantaged and at-risk youths through sports.

Minister Wong's timing is for all to see.

Being the first runner, the minister went on to complete 7km with a timing of 41 mins and 10 secs. The 44-year-old Duric finished 7km in 30 mins and even went on to finish the entire race.

But maybe, just maybe, there are bigger problems lurking behind the tangled web?

For example, why are there no shag pictures of the Minister? All we can see are these:

Where is the shag face? Is he too fit to feel any fatigue?

We will never know.

Instead, there is silence - one that is growing more deafening by the day.

If you do not get the joke, read Minister Wong's commentary ("WP town council and the sound of silence") in The Straits Times.
