An AirAsia flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday, Indonesian media Metro TV said.
Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa revealed that the aircraft, QZ8501, lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic control tower at 0710.
He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact.
It was scheduled to land at Changi Airport at 8.30 am.
According to The Straits Times, there are reportedly 162 people on board.
Flight tracking site, Flight Radar 24 currently puts QZ8501's status as ‘Unknown’.
