10 things you can find in a typical S'porean's home without going to their house

Because we are Singaporeans.

How Singaporean can your old-school parents' house get? We're guessing they would definitely have these things in their house; it's not going to be your usual pots/pans, toilet paper, etc, that's too common.

Here are 10 things you'd be surprised you can find in almost all Singaporeans' houses:

1. Plastic bag full of plastic bags

This is our own unique way of "recycling". A mountain of plastic bags at home, but we don't seem to bring them to the supermarket to re-use them. We just sort them out by size and use them only to line our dustbins or when we want to store sweaty clothes in our backpacks.

2. Utensils "accidentally taken" from an SIA flight

I'm sure many of you use the SIA knife to spread your butter every morning. Don't bluff.

3. Big bundle of rubber bands tied with a rubber band

The size of the bundle is directly related to how much food you dabao.

4. Bottle of XO that has been there forever

At some point in their lives, your parents received a hamper topped with an XO. It's still lying somewhere in the house because no one drinks cognac at home in Singapore.

5. Red plastic basket

Speaking of hampers, this is probably the most useful part of it - the ubiquitous red plastic basket you can use to store folded clothes or toys in the cupboard.

6. Red Leaf Pen

Dollar for dollar, cent for cent these are the most value for money pens in the world. No, we aren't paid to advertise for them.

7. Hello Kitty plush toy stored somewhere

At some point in time in the last 15 years, someone in your house had to get a Hello Kitty because they saw people queuing up for it. They also believed that it would sell for heaps of cash some time in the future, but that future hasn't arrived yet.

8. Yellow pages book used as paper weight or TV stand

In the age of the Internet, what else can thick books of Yellow Pages be used for?

9. Ice cream box filled with frozen meat

We all had that experience. We think our parents are so sweet to buy us ice cream, until we open the container and it's frozen meat. -.-

10. Butter Cookie tin filled with things that are not cookies

Yet another "surprise" in the house when you need a snack badly. Usually opens up to contain sewing supplies.
