In April 2014, crazy weather patterns caused the unusual mass blooming of flowers in Singapore island-wide.
A prolonged two-month dry spell that was accompanied by ultra cool weather followed by torrential downpours then caused plants to misbehave by mass flowering and showing they were ready to sow their seeds.
Now towards the end of the year, the sudden increase in rainfall and cooler temperatures has caused the leaves of some trees like the Sea Almond Tree (Terminalia catappa) and the Malayan Crape Myrtle Tree (Lagerstroemia floribunda) across the island to turn red and yellow, creating the illusion that autumn is coming to Singapore.
Apparently, this trend of trees shedding their leaves usually happens twice a year, some helpful experts have advised, although it is not known if this has always happened or do Singaporeans just spend more time observing and taking photos of such things nowadays.
Anyway, here are 17 photos of the trees changing colour and shedding their leaves from East Coast Park to Singapore General Hospital taken from the National Parks Board (NParks) Facebook page and other social media platforms that will get Instagrammers excited about all the pretty colours they can add filters to:
