10 English songs that will complete the KTV experience in Singapore

Here's the ultimate playlist.

Hands up those who can't quite read Chinese lyrics or don't understand a word of it, and would rather opt for good ol' English songs you grew up with on Perfect 10. Now, if only your friends could stop doing their Konami Code on the song selector device so you could sing something, for heaven's sake.

Here's a list of songs we hear from neighbouring karaoke rooms:

1. The one where everyone rock their heads and scream at the chorus: Bon Jovi - Living On A Prayer

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

You get to see Bon Jovi with his full mane of glory, sing along with him because (woh-ohh) you're halfway there, take his hand and convince yourselves you'll make it, he swears.

2. The one about Liv Tyler: Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing

"> " width="560" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

Before Interstellar, there was Armaggedon with Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler and animal biscuit action. Steve Tyler was already more than famous, but this song pinned his band to our top-of-mind recall when anyone mentions Aerosmith.

3. The one where we do synchronised hand actions: Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

Again, before One Direction, there was a plethora of boybands. Westlife, *NSync, BSB, 98 Degrees, 911 (and that Fann Wong collab). We leave you with an easy one by the Kings of Teenybopper Songs.

4. The one where we again chorus together loudly: Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

At almost 6 minutes long, this is an odyssey of a music video, and sometimes when we find ourselves unable to keep up with singing, we just sit back, sip on our glasses of iced honey lemon and watch Freddie Mercury.

Here, have a Muppets version too.

"> " width="560" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

5. The one where we get knocked down and get up again: Chumbawamba - Tubthumping

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

It's easy to write Chumbawamba off as a one-hit wonder since that's the only song of theirs we hear on the radio, but guess what? Wiki tells us they've had a career spanning 30 years, retiring only 2 years back.

6. The one where, for the third time, we yodel along to the chorus: The Cranberries - Zombie

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

There's just something about KTV songs in general that either they're emo, angsty, or yodel-worthy. This one by the Cranberries hits all the right spots in our headdd.

7. The one where Girl Power was an actual movement: Spice Girls - Wannabe

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

Growing up in the late '90s, there's no way you could tune these girls out. Back then, you could've even been the one writing in to the DJ asking your friends to remain "KewL & FunKy~*". Yes, I'm looking at you.

8. The one where the MTV didn't make sense: Adele - Rolling in the Deep

"> " width="560" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

While the MTV didn't make sense, it made for good soulful warbling along to, as the many glasses of water throbbed to her misery.

9. The one where Lady Gaga burst into the scene: Lady Gaga - Poker Face

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

Because po-po-po-poker face.

In anticipation of Chinese New Year, here's a familiar parody:

"> " width="420" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

10. The one where we remind ourselves of our youth: Fun - We Are Young

" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">

Anthems are our lives. Or at least that last 5 minutes before you get shoo'd out of the room.

The list goes on, and I'm sure you feel equally frustrated when you select the song and what emerges is a scenic panorama of < insert city view / beach front >. Happy singing!
