Following a sizable number of social media pages like Humans of New York and Humans of Singapore cropping up all over the world, a parody page named Cats of Singapore has appeared in Singapore. The page has gotten more than 3,000 likes since it was created earlier this month.
Like its title, the page features various community cats in Singapore, coupled with hilarious satirical captions:
Cats of Singapore declined to reveal who they were, other than the fact that they are ‘a group of friends from NTU (Nanyang Technological University), in a Facebook interview.
The group said that they were inspired by the style pioneered by Humans of New York - with a picture of a person, coupled with a personal story. “(It) was almost an accident really… one of us just uploaded an Instagram photo with a pseudo-HONY caption one day and it got a massive reception, and everyone told us to set this page up,” they said.
“Of course, a parody doesn’t mean we’re targeting Humans of New York,” the group added. “We’re all really big fans of that page and what they do."
The group says that they’re not better than Humans of New York. “(Cats) are better than humans, but New York got Louis CK… and now they’ve stolen Amanda Lee Koe (author of Ministry of Moral Panic) from us too.”
But there may be some clear reasons why they might.
They feature artist cats:
And beautiful cats, and cats that give you deep advice:
Cats that are comic fans...
and cats that are angry about the government:
Cats that are fitness instructors...
and even cats that are serving National Service in an island.
The group says that they may ‘eventually’ feature other cats, like cats in rescue groups. "Cats are obviously superior to human beings, so we should all listen to them more.”
