Parking your car at Changi Airport costs $2.40 per hour. However, you just have to pay a maximum of $20 if you park your car for 24 hours.
In other words, leave your car at the airport for a weekend getaway will cost you between $20 - $60.
Come 14 October, that cap will be removed and it would cost you $57.60 ($2.40 x 24) to park 24 hours. This is almost triple the initial fee.
A Facebook user, Kenneth Mark Yong posted a photograph of the changes:
Preposterous! How can Changi Airport do such a thing?
Never mind that taking taxis or the MRT will cost less than $60.
Never mind that overnight cars are depriving a parking space for those at the airport bidding their relatives farewell or those who are picking their family members up returning to Singapore - these people can take the MRT and taxis instead.
Never mind that there will be a drop in supply of parking spaces because Terminal 1's carpark will be closed this quarter due to the construction of Project Jewel.
In fact, these people are getting angry on your behalf on Singapore's angriest blog:
It's also the Causeway toll's fault!
It's the end of the world for some people because they can't park their cars overnight as cheaply. Changi Airport, you have to listen to the people!
It's all a conspiracy by the Government to raise prices across the board. How nefarious of them!
The angry Singaporeans have spoken.
We need to build more multi-story car parks and, preferably, make them free to use. All roads should be widened to accommodate more cars, especially when we abolish the unnecessary COE.
Every Singaporean should be entitled to one car. That way, we'll be happy forevermore.
