Roy Ngerng, the blogger who is being sued by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for defamation, announced that he has achieved and even exceeded his donation target of S$70,000, merely four days after he started appealing for donations online via his website and social media.

Ngerng in his latest update four days into crowdfunding, said he has raised S$72,000 for his legal fees.

This news has since been reported by international news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), which managed to scoop all the local news outlets, including The Straits Times and Channel NewsAsia.

AFP, in its report, "Blogger crowdfunds legal fees for battle against Singapore PM", mentioned that 1,104 people had so far contributed more than $72,000, exceeding Ngerng's original target of S$70,000.

The success of his crowdfunding efforts, entirely without any mention in the mainstream press, is a formidable feat that was also acknowledged in online technology media platform TechInAsia.
