Check out all these beautiful S'pore homes listed on Airbnb that HDB, URA can confiscate

More than 1,000 rooms and properties are listed on home-rental website Airbnb, which is a very rebellious thing to do in Singapore.

The sharing economy be damned.

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has confiscated two flats after it was discovered that the home owners were renting them out to tourists, The New Paper reported on June 9, 2014.

It is against HDB and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) regulations to lease out a HDB or private home for anything less than six months.

The rationale is that transient visitors pose various security concerns and may inconvenience other homeowners.

One of the confiscated units is an executive flat in the east and the other is a four-room flat in the west.

However, the authorities did not say when it took the flats back but its investigations proved the owners had leased out the flats for between $25 and $75 per night to multiple tourists.

One more flat owner in the central part of Singapore has been issued a warning.

This is the first time a confiscation of flats under such circumstances has happened, even as home-rental websites like Airbnb and Roomorama have become more popular here over the last two years.

Airbnb alone has more than 1,000 listings of homes in Singapore.

Proponents of home-rentals say this is a good way for locals and foreigners to meet and an easy way to monetise their property.
