So, long story short:

Kimmie Marie Cumming is a 19-year-old residing in Singapore. She aspires to be a professional ballet dancer and has turned to crowdfunding platform Indiegogo because she figured she couldn't afford it.

Her crowdfunding effort, which started on June 16, 2014, has lasted 10 days so far and managed to raise 10 percent of the S$50,000 target.

Her history: She was admitted to School of The Arts when she was 14 and graduated in November 2013. She has had two short stints overseas to study dance, the latest in Korea this year.

She has been accepted into the prestigious Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) in Taiwan.

TNUA is a top-notch university and its dance department only selects two foreign students in the world to join their faculty where she will train with the world's best dancers.

Kimmie said her father was recently retrenched and she also said she is not letting a lack of finances put a halt to her plans.

She wrote on her Indiegogo page:

"I am not ready to be resigned to that fact that I should just give up on my dream because of financial issues. So this is ultimately the reason why I created this campaign. To fight for what I want and I am never giving up."

Studying at TNUA will cost a student approximately S$11,000 a year, she also wrote.

The BFA (Undergraduate Dance Program) at TNUA lasts four years, which is about S$44,000, is inclusive of tuition fees, health insurance, housing and living expenses.
