S'poreans lost it when they read an insensitive TNP article about a deceased driver who's too big for his coffin

Dear The New Paper, it's time to publish your articles in Perth instead.

How does one make the whole of Internet angry?

Not difficult if you are The New Paper (TNP).

TNP TNP_reporttoday reported that 33-year old Jamie Ho, who died in a horrific car accident on Labour Day, could not fit into a standard coffin.

It went on to detail how Ho's shoulders, which measure about 69cm, were unable to fit into standard coffins which were for people with shoulder widths of about 53cm.

We do not know why such private information is relevant to anyone else except Ho's grieving family.

Neither do most of the Singaporeans, it seems.

Here are the reactions by Singaporeans telling TNP on its FB page to do its job better:

1. Many called for the paper to respect the dead and display more empathy to the deceased's family.

2. A few called for a FB "Dislike" button to the article.

3. Others demanded an apology.

4. A few volunteered to boycott the paper.

One called for a lifetime boycott.

5. Even those sympathetic towards TNP's interests wondered about the purpose of this article.

6. One decided to rename TNP.

According to Nielsen's 2013 survey on local media, TNP has found its readership dipping from 459,000 to 363,000.

Such an article is the final nail to the paper's coffin.
