An otter was spotted putting down its roots and making itself comfortable at Bishan Park on May 8, 2014.
It is most likely a smooth-coated otter, a species that is thought to have disappeared from Singapore in the 1970s.
The current otter population that is making Singapore their habitat again is believed to have migrated from Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This phenomenon has even caused National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan to urge Singaporeans to embrace this species of animals.
Smooth-coated otters (Lutrogale perspicillata) have recently been sighted in Pasir Ris on more than one occasion and Gardens By The Bay
Unfortunately, they have been listed as vulnerable by the International Union of Conservation for Nature.
