At 11 a.m. today, McDonald's Singapore announced on its Facebook that it was accepting online orders for its latest Hello Kitty plush toys.

Two minutes later, the website could not handle the surge in users wanting to get their hands on the toy cat. Many users could only get to this page:

The Facebook posting on McDonald's Singapore's page received a deluge of comments, understandably from customers who are extremely eager to spend money on the soft toys, despite it being a late morning on a work day.

Here are some of the comments:

This guy REALLY wants his kitties:

It would seem that some enterprising Singaporeans have decided to cash-in on the craze for Hello Kitty toys with several postings selling the set of toys at a premium over the $80 you would've spent if you bought direct from McDonald's.

McDonald's has since suspended its online sale temporarily to sort out its server issues:

Fortunately, amidst all the rancor at the apparent shortcomings of McDonald's webhost, a few voices of reason came through:

Interestingly, this episode has revealed that one Darryl Kang has been a voice of calm and reason whenever social media erupts with anger over issues. Examples of his soothing comments can be viewed here and here as well. Could he be Singa the Lion in disguise?

Hopefully, we can see more of such Singaporeans who know that life is not about fast food soft toys. One can only imagine the chaos that will soon descend upon McDonald's outlets island-wide as the toy goes on sale at the restaurants.
