514 Chai Chee Lane 03-16, Singapore 469029 Indonesia’s armed forces commander, General Moeldoko, was in the spotlight this past week.
He had offered an apology to Singapore for the recent naming of a vessel after two Indonesian marines who bombed MacDonald House in 1965 -- which we graciously accepted -- only for him to take it back.
While the significance of his flip-flop was of immense interest to the Singapore government, the Indonesian public, international relations wonks, political science pundits, media analysts and bilateral ties watchers, one hawk-eyed online publication noticed he was wearing a very expensive watch.
The Millenary, an online luxury lifestyle site that proclaims itself to be "staunch defenders of true luxury", wrote a piece focusing on the Indonesian General's timepiece.
They noted that in a Straits Times photo dated, March 25, 2014, General Moeldoko was seen wearing what appears to be a Richard Mille RM 011 Felipe Massa Flyback Chronograph “Black Kite".
Apparently, it was the watch's conspicuous black titanium frame and its red and gold details that gave its identity away fairly easily.
Moreover, the watch is so recognisable partly because it is so rare that there are only 30 pieces sold in the whole of North and South America, which means that is pretty much that many of them in the whole world.
The article went on to speculate: "...it appears that the Indonesian General managed to get his hands on one. Alternatively, it could be different variant but still 45 piece limited edition Asia boutique variant – RM 011-S."
The price? Upwards of US$100,000.
