Higher education school fees going up, but will salaries too?

Singapore citizens enrolling into universities, polytechnics and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) from academic year 2014 onwards will be paying more school fees.

Here's a look at the 2014 tuition fee hike.

 

National University of Singapore (NUS)

General courses up by 2.6 percent to S$7,850 per year.

Law programme will go up 7.9 percent to S$11,650 per year.

Business, dentistry, law and medicine will experience hikes of 3.3 to 7.9 percent per year.

NUS Provost and Deputy President (Academic Affairs), Tan Eng Chye, said the fee adjustment was necessary to defray the higher costs of talent, supplies and services.

 

Nanyang Technological University (NTU)

General degrees up by 2.5 percent to S$7,850 per year.

Business and accountancy will rise 3 percent to S$8,850.

NTU said in a statement that the higher fees is to "help to partially defray annual inflationary costs”.

 

Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine

Singapore’s second medical school will increase fees by 5 percent to S$31,500 annually.

 

Singapore Management University (SMU)

Fees for all degree programmes will increase by 2 percent.

A SMU spokesperson said the hike is needed to maintain its small seminar-style classes that comprise of up to 50 people.

 

Singapore University of Technology and Design

Singapore’s newest public university will raise fees by 4 percent to S$11,650.
