It is officially too impossibly expensive to get drunk in S'pore

Bottled beer at heartland coffee shops to cost $1 more.

Heartland coffee shops will most likely start charging at least $1 more per bottle of beer.

This will take effect soon as the hike in liquor tax of 25 percent was announced during last Friday's Budget and effective immediately.

Currently, a bottle of beer bought in a coffee shop costs an average of $6 to $7.

As coffee shop owners said they cannot afford to absorb any rise in cost price, they will pass it on to consumers.

Higher-end establishments, such as pubs and bars, are facing similar problems with costs but are negotiating with suppliers.

They said they are planning on striking a balance between absorbing any price hikes and passing it on to consumers.

Another option for these pricier establishments is to reduce the concentration of alcohol in cocktails as a way of managing costs -- but that's a killjoy.

Singapore's beer prices are already depressingly exorbitant compared to other places in Asia.

The best places to get smashed in Southeast Asia are still (ordered according to preference): Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
