Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, also the chairman of the Singapore 50 (SG50) Steering Committee, announced earlier today that the SG50 committee will be calling for ideas from Singaporeans as to how they would like to celebrate Singapore's 50th birthday.
Singaporeans who are interested to pitch ideas can visit the SG50 website or drop their suggestions at public libraries, community centres or museums. The committee will look into implementing some of the ideas raised by Singaporeans.
Minister Heng also announced the launch of the SG50 Celebration Fund. This fund will allow Singaporeans who wants to celebrate Singapore's 50th birthday in their own way to obtain some funding from the Government.
The fund will co-fund 90% of approved projects up to a tune of $50,000. The fund is open to informal interest or community groups, societies or registered companies.
The celebrations for SG50 is expected to last throughout 2015 and not only during the National Day Parade period.
