Here are 5 key points of his message:
1. Economy: The economy grew by 2.0 percent in the 6 months of 2013 And it is expected to grow by 2.5 to 3.5 percent this year, higher than previously expected.
2. Progress on Housing & Transport: The government has cleared the queue for HDB flats and stablised BTO prices. Property speculation and excessive borrowing has been curtailed. There are also more buses, bus routes and trains. Phase One of the Downtown Line will open in December (Chinatown, Telok Ayer, Downtown, Bayfront, Promenade and Bugis).
3. Government's role to build a fair and just society: The government will play a bigger role to build a fair and just society, tackle the cost of living, for example healthcare costs, especially for the elderly, and help every family afford their own HDB flat. Low income workers will benefit through Workfare.
4. Our Singapore Conversation: Summary of Our Singapore Conversation's aspirations: 1) How Singapore can be a home where citizens have opportunities to succeed and live fulfilling lives; 2) Where Singaporeans define success in many ways; 3) Where the disadvantaged get help and the successful do more to help others; and 4) Where stronger safety nets give citizens more peace of mind.
5. United People and Good Government: To build a better Singapore, PM said that Singaporeans have to be united and not be divided by race, social class, or political faction.
