A recently launched MediaCorp food recommendation app, 8 Days Eat, has come under some scrutiny.
Local start-up publication SGEntrepreneurs.com drew attention to the visual similarities between 8 Days Eat and Burpple, an app created in early 2012 by a Singapore start-up of the same name.
Here are some of the screenshots for comparison:

Both apps share a similar pink hue along with identical user interface elements and they make location-based food recommendations to users.
But that's about it in terms of similarities.
Burpple crowdsources for content from its foodie community. On the other hand, the 8 Days Eat app relies on food critics on its payroll for content.
So what's the conclusion? Similarities are no big deal, really.
Because there's basically nothing new under the sun anymore.
Plus, the Internet is about mashup culture. People steal ideas with or without credit all the time.
Because did you all know that Burpple and 8 Days Eat look like the Michelin Guide, the greatest food guide ?
So both apps are just paying tribute to the greatest food guide on the planet.
But has it struck anyone as absurd that we are availing ourselves to food recommendations made by a car tyre company?
