Kong Hee posts video excerpt of Sun Ho's ordination as pastor

He prays that she will speak with fire coming out of her belly.

As some of you might have learned, following the City Harvest Church six's guilty verdict last week, church founder Kong Hee's wife Sun Ho has been ordained as church pastor in the wake of the high-publicity trial.

Kong, one of the six found guilty of fraud, put up a video on Oct. 19 on his Facebook page, which features a short excerpt of the ceremony:

Ho (Official) was recently ordained and in that ceremony, Dr. Michael Scales, President of NYACK College, and Rev. Dr. Canon James Wong prayed for her. Thank you for your love and support for Sun as she was recognized, confirmed and commissioned for the work of the ministry. Please continue to pray for Sun & our new generation leadership team, as they work together for CHC 2.0!

We thought it would be helpful to highlight one part of it:

Kong presents Ho with a bible, saying: "40 years ago, I became a believer. This is the first bible I owned. And in every ordination normally the ordaining pastor gives a bible."

"Let this be a symbol of the authority I am handing to you. Sun, this is my bible, it is now in your hands. Let's give Sun a big clap right now."

This ceremony of ordaining Ho as a pastor is interesting because Ho seems to have a history of people mistaking her for a pastor — even her own church's magazine appears to have got it wrong.

Take for example, these "CHC Confessions" posts from 2013:

As well as this New Paper story from April this year, prior to her ordination, which refers to her as a "singer-pastor":

Ho's Wikipedia entry also describes her as having "started as a pastor", and "was a dedicated pastor until she was in her late twenties":

But we guess these could all have gotten it wrong. The best person, apart from Ho herself, to say whether she is or was a pastor or not would be none other than her husband.

Consider, therefore, this 2009 blog post from Kong about his wife and China Wine, which has since disappeared alongside his site konghee.com (it now redirects to his Facebook page). It stated quite explicitly that Ho was not a pastor:

However, this old City Harvest magazine, Harvest Times, called her one:

It had a feature article on Ho:

... which referred to her as "music pastor":

This, as you might expect, left us a bit confused. Was the magazine's copy published in error?

Or perhaps on all those times she was referred to as a pastor, she was never *officially* ordained until now?

Nonetheless, the ordination video is quite worth watching as it sheds more light on how pastors are ordained in Kong's and Ho's church.
