The two foreign workers who dramatically saved a toddler at Jurong East yesterday afternoon were awarded the Singapore Civil Defence Force's Public Spiritedness Award for their bravery.

Subramanian Shanmuganathan (second from right), 35, along with Ponnan Muthukumar, 24, were presented the award along with some NTUC vouchers by Deputy Commander 4th SCDF Division LTC Michael Chua and Jurong MP Ang Wei Neng today.

Both foreign workers were Indian nationals who have been working in Singapore for four and three years respectively.

Mr Shanmuganathan was the pull-up hero who expertly heaved himself up the second floor. According to other reports, Muthukumar climbed up shortly after.

According to Mr Ponnan Muthukumar, the 3-year-old toddler got stuck after the iPad she was playing with fell over.

A SCDF spokesman said that were no visible injuries except for some redness on the toddler's face, and, for reasons unknown, the parent at the scene had refused to send her to the hospital.
