Incredible amounts of hair collecting at your shower drain scaring the living daylights out of you? The only thing that is thinning on you is not your waistline but your hair?

You can prevent all these if you paid more attention to your crowning glory.

Here are some of the hair care tips for you to maintain a full head of healthy hair:

1: Wash your hair regularly

It sounds like an obvious tip, but since many of us were brought up without having a hair care instruction manual, the simplest things are often overlooked. You'll be surprised how some people don't think it is necessary to wash their hair regularly. You can smell unwashed hair when their head is inches from your face in the morning on the MRT.

There are countless sweat glands and sebaceous glands on our scalp. As the scalp is covered by hair, heat is not easily dispersed. Due to our warm climate, perspiration, sebum and dust are often trapped on the scalp and hair. As time passes, this could lead to dandruff and breeding of bacteria, which leads to hair problems. Hence, it is important to wash our scalp and hair regularly to maintain a head of healthy hair.

People with oily scalp should wash their hair daily, whereas those with normal scalp should wash it at least 2 – 3 times a week.

2: Avoid washing your hair with hot water

Hot water makes hair dry and brittle. It also strips away the natural protective oil coating your hair and scalp. Cold water showers are good for your blood circulation and it saves on electricity for your heater as well.

Try showering with water around your body temperature if you're too scared of cold water.

3: Minimize Hair Dyes and foreign chemical treatments

Hair Dye

Frequent chemical hair perms and hair dyes can penetrate into our bodies and affect our nervous system. Chemicals can cause a reaction to weaken our hair, making it brittle and dull - often falling off easily.

Chemicals can also damage the scalp, hair follicles and hair, leading to premature aging and eventually hair loss and grey hair. It is highly recommended to let your hair and scalp rest as long as possible before going for another round of perm and dyeing.hair dye

4: Balance Diet and Obtaining Healthy Lifestyle

Hair requires protein to thrive. So you should look to add protein-rich food - fish, egg, soy and dairy products - into your meals.

But protein is not the only thing you require. Drink lots of water and eat fresh fruit daily as well.

Moderate alcohol consumption can improve blood circulation and promotes healthy hair. But too much alcohol may deprive hair follicles of oxygen and nutrients and that's bad.

5: Brush your hair

You know how you find massages extremely shiok? Hair feels the same way about being brushed as well. So treat your hair nicely and brush it to give your scalp a good massage. Be careful not to use plastic combs/brushes that can cause static. That may damage your hair. Go for wooden brushes.
