"Not bad at all. Let us do more."

The Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS), launched last year, has been "delivering results, and babies", wrote National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan in his blog yesterday.

Minister Khaw blogged that under the PPHS , 110 babies have been born so far.  There are currently 1,150 PPHS flats. That's a hit rate of roughly 10 per cent.

The scheme started in January 2013 with flats in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay and Dover. The Straits Times wrote that rental rates range from $800 for a three-room flat in Boon Lay to $1,900 for a five-room flat in Dover.

According to HDB, the PPHS is created for:

The scheme started out by targeting first-timer married couples with citizen child below 16 years old who have signed the Agreement for Lease of an uncompleted flat offered under the HDB Build-To-Order (BTO) or Sale of Balance Flats (SBF) Exercises.

On 8 Apr 2013: Extended the PPHS to all first-timer married couples who have signed the Agreement for Lease of an uncompleted BTO/ SBF flat.

On 18 Sep 2013 Further expanded the target group and now targeted at:

a. Married couples and applicants under the Fiancé/Fiancée Scheme, comprising both first timers or one first timer and one second timer, who have booked an uncompleted BTO/ SBF flat;

b. Divorced/widowed persons with children, who have booked an uncompleted BTO/ SBF flat.

Showing the determination of a punter who kept going and finally won the first prize, the government will allocate another 800 temporary flats, mainly three-room flats, for couples from next year. Some are located in Bukit Merah and Queenstown, two expensive districts. And couples will be allowed to co-rent and co-pay for the PPHS flat to reduce their expense. A maximum of two families can share the flat.

With an addition of 800 such flats, does it mean we can expect at least 80 SG50 babies?

The National Population and Talent Division waits with bated breath.
