Editor's update: The father of the NSF in question has released a statement on Facebook, you can read about it here. In its latest FB update, the SAF shared a photograph of the dog bites suffered by a lady who works in the camp.  SAF reiterated that it does not condone any acts of cruelty to animals.

On Jan. 14, welfare group Animal Lovers League posted a 21-second video on Facebook showing a black dog with a white rope tied around its neck in a shower stall supposedly shot in Pasir Ris Camp:

The dog was hoisted in a manner to prevent it from moving or lying down.

This video was shot by a full-time national serviceman (NSF) and sent to Cathy Strong, the Animal Lovers League founder.

The NSF has since been charged with unauthorised videography and unauthorised disclosure of information to a third-party.

As part of his punishment, the NSF has been given 21 days of suspension of leave. During this time, he is required to report to the military police every two hours. His punishment started yesterday.

Allegations of abuse

The dog in the video was allegedly tied up by a lieutenant-colonel. He, along with another warrant officer, have been sent for counselling for their involvement in the cruel treatment of the animal, as reported by The Straits Times today.

And this doesn't appear to be an isolated case of mistreatment of animals.

There have been other allegations that dogs in the vicinity of Pasir Ris Camp have been routinely beaten.

Following up on this video being made public and the allegations of cruelty to the dogs, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) collaborated and launch an investigation.

MINDEF said that it "does not condone any acts of cruelty to animals and takes a serious view if its servicemen were found to be guilty of such acts".

AVA has since released a statement saying "no injuries were found on the dog", which drew a rebuke from the Animal Lovers League founder.
