10 fast food toys that are must-haves

We would find the most ridiculous reasons to pester our parents to bring us to fast food restaurants because we wanted these toys so badly.

Any self-respected toy collector would tell you how fast food memorabilia is another class on its own. These toys probably made you eat fast food weekly and there was nothing you could do. Here are 10 collections we wished we owned.

1.  Ronald McDonald wishes all a Happy Lunar New Year!

Are pink flower blossoms and Chinese calligraphies too mainstream for your liking when it comes to decorations? Everyone’s favourite clown came up with different poses in the late 1980s to welcome the Lunar New Year.

2.  The wonderful world of Disney in a cup!

What would we do without Disney animated movies? Burger King sold these well-made cups in the 1990s, complete with write-ups from movies like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King and Aladdin printed behind them.

3.  Colonel Sanders gets groovy!

Kentucky Fried Chicken isn’t really the fast food restaurant you’d think of when it comes to toys, but this set of Chicky meal figurines is quite the hoot. The bespectacled old dude sure looks like he’s enjoying himself in the different poses.

4.  Sunny day, sweepin’ the clouds away!

Kudos to any collector who owns this entire set of adorable Sesame Street beanies. McDonald’s even produced and sold an impressively handy gunny sack to hold the dolls.

5.  101 reasons to get spotty!

Our hearts go out to parents who gave in to their kids and visited McDonald’s 101 times to collect all 101 Dalmatians in the 1990s – we hope you’re doing well with your health. It wasn’t a surprise when the fast food chain sold produced 102 toys to market the movie’s sequel a few years later.

6. The cat that defined the fast food toy craze.

It was the year 2000 and people went crazy. Queuing overnight and dumping fast food just for the sake of these soft toy kitties.

7.  Springfield talks!

This was the best image we could find of the Burger King toys to promote The Simpsons Movie in 2007. The battery-operated figurines could talk and we’d think owning the whole set of gold-coated Simpsons characters would definitely give you street cred.

8.  Assemble and eat fried chicken!

Just as you thought Kentucky Fried Chicken isn’t the place to go to for fast food toys, the marketing folks managed to get the rights to produce these in 2012. The gang from The Avengers may not be the most  well-made toys, but they got us eating the awesomely sinful Double Down burger every week.

9.  Look ma, my food transforms!

This set of toys from McDonald’s was a work of genius. Familiar food items like Big Mac, French Fries and Chicken McNuggets could transform into robots – you have to take your hats off the creative minds behind this idea.

10.  Everything also must!

And the last spot in the list goes to our very own Mr. Kiasu. McDonald’s impressed us in 1993 by producing this set of collectibles which made us grin from ear to ear. Is there subtlety in marketing the fast food brand? Nope, because in true kiasu spirit, there is no need to.
