Tan Kue Kim, the founder of Kim's Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee, has passed away aged 78.

The F&B boss was well-known for frying Hokkien mee while wearing a long-sleeve shirt, long pants, and a Rolex watch as part of his signature look and branding.

A Facebook post informing the public of his passing was put up on Feb. 15.

The post read: "Received a sad news, passing of a legend hawker."

An obituary in the comments section of the post announced that the wake is held at Block 411 Eunos Road.

The outlet that sells hokkien mee and other zi char dishes at 62B Jalan Eunos was opened in 1996.

He began learning the trade under the watchful eyes of his cousin at the age of 13 near Changi Village and has been frying Hokkien mee for 65 years.

He was known to personally step up to the wok to prepare the dish when a old-timer customer stopped by for a meal.

He leaves behind a wife, two sons, a daughter, and four grandchildren.

According to Shin Min Daily News in September 2023, Tan was trying to sell his business instead of passing it on to his eldest son.
