Tinder might help you meet new girls and boys, but when it comes to actually finding the one and settling down as a couple, the Housing & Development Board (HDB) puts the dating app to shame.
Not convinced?
Here’s some reasons why:
1. Show flats – a test to know if he/she is worth your time
Visiting showrooms together is a rite of passage for many young couples. If your significant other hates your taste in furniture, then perhaps it’s time to relook the relationship. If the reverse is true, chances are you’ll enjoy furnishing your home together.
Checking out HDB show flats is no different. With added realism, of course. Because HDB homes are ones that you can realistically get without robbing a bank. Or having millionaire parents.
2. Electronic balloting – more time to spend those sweet pre-marriage years
In the past, long queues at balloting would test a couple’s patience. With electronic balloting these days, you get to save time during balloting, so both of you get to spend more we-time together. Plus, the balloting situation now has improved drastically as compared to, say, five years ago, when flats were frequently oversubscribed.
3. Nice-looking environments – Good pre-wedding and OOTD backdrops
Apart from providing affordable housing to Singaporeans over the years, the humble HDB housing estate has also improved as it offers many opportunities for OOTDs. These include landmarks such as the iconic dragon playground, and awe-and-stunning green, sky-rise homes– Treelodge@Punggol, SkyTerrace and SkyVille@Dawson, to name a few.
4. Grants – so we need not worry about getting too big a loan
Back in the day, grants were pretty rare. Now, there’s a myriad of grants for most applicants: Additional CPF Housing Grant, Special CPF Housing Grant, Step-Up CPF Housing Grant, just to name a few.
5. Don’t need fancy proposals – because a cosy love nest is way better
Why propose with a diamond ring when you can have a steel and concrete engagement tool?
He/She’ll never lose it (unless you guys lease it out illegally through AirBnB) and it’ll be part of your neighbourhood’s skyline.
Not to mention that engagement rings aren’t known to appreciate in the long run.
