Well-known DJ's set cut short at Zouk so that Najib's son could play instead

What a mess.

Saturday night (March 5) should have been a good night for trance-lovers at Zouk - Fadi of Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila was the guest DJ for the night.

However, Fadi was reportedly forced to end his set early.

Why? According to Fadi, he had to give way to the son of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Norashman Najib, who wanted to spin despite not being in the performers' bill that night.

Fadi, during his set that night, announced that he would no longer play for Zouk. This was captured in the following video where he explained why:

In the video, Fadi said, "It seems that Zouk here wants someone else to play. Not only because of that, because apparently he's the son of a prime minister ... Thank you so much, enjoy my last track. I'll see you somewhere in the future. Not in Zouk anymore, because I won't play in Zouk any f***ing more. They've insulted me, but I love you guys."

Since the incident, Zouk made a statement on its Facebook page saying it was all a 'misunderstanding'.

However, it seems that this incident has hurt Zouk's reputation as one of the best nightspots in the world. Its statement was not well-received as many continued to lambast them:

Zouk was founded by Lincoln Cheng in 1991.  It was sold to Genting HK in 2015 for an undisclosed sum.

Aly & Fila are ranked #42 out of the top 100 DJs in the world according to DJ Mag:
