It looks like M1 is having the jitters as well as they are now allowing new and recontracting customers' to double their mobile data caps by paying just S$5.90 more per month.

This is after Singtel is allowing new and recontracting subscribers to double their mobile data by paying S$5.90 more monthly, which looked like a response to potential fourth telco MyRepublic's intention to spoil market by offering data-only plans from $8 per month.

M! customers previously had to pay S$82 a month for 5GB of mobile data.

Now, customers signing up for M1's basic S$42 monthly plan that originally comes with 3GB of data allowance will get to add on 2GB, where a total of 5GB of data will now cost S$47.90.

This works out to a discount of 40 per cent.

For bigger data bundle deals, M1 customers will get even better deals.

By adding 6GB data to their existing 7GB bundle, subscribers pay only S$107.90 a month for a total of 13GB of data. Its 13GB plan used to cost twice as much at S$228 a month.

However, this makes data pricing for both M1 and Singtel rather similar, suggesting they are going to match prices and protect their bottom lines.

Singtel's monthly S$102.90 plan that originally comes with 6GB of data can be doubled to 12GB for a total of S$108.80.

A 12GB plan used to cost twice as much at $239.90.
