Some homes in Potong Pasir will open up for you to kaypoh this weekend, in the name of art

Art walkabout with a difference.

OH! Open House is an art exhibition/walkabout like no other in Singapore. Instead of renting art spaces in museums or galleries, OH! shares people's homes as part of the exhibition space.

Yes, you can walk into regular Singapore homes to satisfy your kay-poh-ness while on this art walkabout over the next few weekends.

This year OH! has descended upon Potong Pasir - the slightly romanticised version of Singapore where every photograph you take looks like it already comes with an Instagram filter slapped on.

Peppered with little facts about Potong Pasir, such as its origins as a sand quarry, who designed its

iconic ski-slope roof HDB flats and how it played a part in the floods during the late 60s, this art walk promises to provide “alternative readings” for participants.

afea Buzzword for Potong Pasir since 2011: Upgrading

As Singaporeans are no strangers to perpetual upgrading (we were practically weaned on this word), Potong Pasir was a natural choice for artistic director Alan Oei, as he spoke about the “neighbourhood that is becoming” within the context of sudden departed spaces and perpetual construction.

Artists that have come forth to share their personal narratives of Potong Pasir include Ong Kian Peng (winner of the Singapore Art Museum’s President's Young Talents 2015 award), Guo Yixiu (whose works

in last year’s OH! Joo Chiat left many unsure of their footing) and Tan Wee Lit (whose raining cloud

currently sits at the Singapore River).

In its sixth edition, OH! is no stranger to venturing around neighbourhoods and knocking on doors to get community participation. So even if you aren’t that big an art enthusiast, the walk will still bring the kaypoh in you to private homes (with a treehouse!) and spaces that may have been forgotten in your everyday routines.
