Update, March 16, 2016: The Marine Parade Town Council has taken down and apologised for posters that banned residents from playing chess in common areas. They said the three posters, which were put up at the void deck and covered walkway of Block 11, Haig Road in early January, were a "mistake", as they were not to deter chess-playing but for void deck users to be more considerate. In it's place are new posters with heading that read, "Please be considerate".
Original article:
The Marine Parade Town Council has come out to clarify that the widely-mocked photo dissuading people from playing chess at the void deck is not as pervasive as Singaporeans have imagined.
The town council said it is put up at the void deck of only one block of flats.
This was after chess players and onlookers at Blk 11 Haig Road were persistently blocking the way and inconveniencing other people using the covered walkway.
