News of how one man's one-year journey in trying to bring in a Tesla electric car to Singapore had gone viral last week.
On top of taking one year, IT-professional Joe Nguyen had to pay a $15,000 carbon surcharge for his car.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that the electric energy consumption of his Tesla car was 444 watt-hour/km or an equivalent of 222g/km of CO2 - which is within the $15,000 surcharge band under Singapore's Carbon Emission- based Vehicle Scheme.
Twitter user Valdric Lim, who is based in Singapore, took to Twitter on Mar 4 and tweeted to Tesla Motors founder Elon Musk. Lim also linked the Channel NewsAsia story of the tax surcharge.
Musk responded to the tweet and said, "We spoke earlier today and he said he would investigate the situation."
Here's a screenshot of the tweets:
Despite our SIngapore Prime Minister visiting your @TeslaMotors factory last month, this still happens:https://t.co/Frb3YmwPXT

Yup, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was at Tesla Factory last month, during his working visit to the United States.

Guess someone at LTA must be hard at work investigating the situation now. This CNA reporter is working hard too. Hope Musk responded to his request.
@elonmusk Hi! I'm with CNA that put out the news about LTA's response. Is it possible to get your email, so I can send some questions? — Kevin Kwang (@KevinKwangCNA) March 4, 2016
