An old man driving an equally old BMW allegedly ran a red light along Hougang Avenue 7 and hit a a dog on a leash that was making its way across the pedestrian crossing with its owner.

The dog, a Golden Retriever, suffered a fractured rib and some abrasions.

Video taken from the dashboard of a taxi as it stopped at the red light barely showed the incident occur, but it could be seen that the dog was thrown at least a few metres forward after getting hit.

An audible gasp could be heard in the video during the moment of impact. It is best viewed below from the 50-second mark onward:

According to the dog's owner, the driver, an elderly male who appeared to have trouble walking as seen from the video, was said to have left the scene after only providing his contact number as he said he did not have any form of identification on him.

He could not be reached subsequently and a police report has been made.

This is the woman's dog at the vet after the accident.
