He was the People's Action Party (PAP) Aljunied GRC candidate for the 2015 General Election.
Lye, who was the direct competitor to Workers' Party (WP) Chief Low Thia Khiang, lost by "more than 1,000 votes” in the last GE.
Undeterred by the loss, the PAP Chairman for Bedok Reservoir-Punggol branch has already started his groundwork for GE2020, as he distributed limited editions of his SG50 Chinese New Year (CNY) music video DVDs over the CNY weekend.

Yes, Lye is following a tradition by MediaCorp Channel 8 artistes who usually release an album of CNY songs during the Lunar New Year.
In fact, Mediacorp should probably charge Lye for copying their signature moves.

In fact, Lye appears to be going the celebrity-route of engaging residents in his constituency.
