Poonya, the female Red Panda at River Safari, passed away on Jan. 13.
She was five.
According to Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) in a blog post, she was suffering from a gut infection and was under treatment since Jan. 7.
Here's the statement from WRS:

Red Pandas, despite their names, are not related to the black-and-white Giant Pandas. They are the only living species of the genus Ailurus and the family Ailuridae. They are more closely related to the raccoon, weasel and skunk. The Red Pandas are classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Poonya arrived at River Safari in 2012, along with a male red panda named Puska from Johannesburg Zoo, South Africa.
(Update: After we tweeted this story, WRS responded to us to share that Puska isn't all by his lonesome — it seems there is another male red panda in their midst we weren't aware of previously.)
@MothershipSG thanks for keeping Poonya in your thoughts. She was 1 of 3 red pandas at #RiverSafari. We now have 2 males in our collection.

But anyway, here are some Red Panda gifs to numb the pain of this loss :(
