The number of dengue cases reached 455 in the week ending Jan. 2, 2016, 86 more than the previous week.
According to the National Environment Agency (NEA), it was the highest weekly total in 2015.
A glance at the dengue clusters show that eastern Singapore has the most number of dengue clusters.
Out of the 17 high-risk areas with more than 10 dengue cases, 11 are located in the east (or close to it) of Singapore.

Why so many cases?!
According to NEA, the warmer-than-usual weather is one of the main causes. The warmer conditions quicken the Aedes mosquito's maturation cycle and shortens the incubation periods of the dengue virus.
Will it get worse?
The possibility does exist.
The Straits Times reported that the DENV-2 serotype, which had been the dominant strain before 2013 until DENV-1 took over, is back. NEA stated that DENV-2 accounts for more than half of all dengue cases in Singapore.
It added that the change in the dominant virus may be an early indicator of a future dengue outbreak.
