These quotes from shoppers at the Balmain x H&M collection launch made us LOL

Such unparalleled dedication to fashion.

Not that many of you might be aware of this, but a collection of limited-edition clothes, bags and accessories launched on Thursday (Nov. 5) morning at fashion store chain H&M:

Now we know what some of you are thinking: what the heck is Balmain, and can you eat it?

It's actually a Parisian haute couture designer brand founded in 1945, and now designed by Olivier Rousteing. If that was Greek to you, never mind — just know it's some high-end fashion brand can already.

That said, it looks like quite a few people know Balmain, and even like it quite a lot, judging from this 400-odd-shoppers-long queue to enter the store hours before it opened:

The first girl in line, in fact, waited outside the store since MONDAY night.

Here's Channel NewsAsia's interview with her:

"'I've been queuing since 7pm on Monday till 8am the next day, when my friend took over me at 1pm. I didn't want to be second or third, (I had to be) first to ensure that I get what I want, a blazer,' said Ms Kwek, 26.

'I'm very tired but excited, but scared I pass out, too. I didn't really have dinner.'

Ms Kwek also came prepared with a plan to ensure that she got what she had her eyes on: 'I'm working with the people next to me, so when we go in we'll help each other to grab all the items for all of us.'

When she emerged from H&M two hours later, holding five bags of shopping, Ms Kwek said she got almost everything she wanted — including the blazer.

'I bought some items as gifts because the holiday season is coming,' said Ms Kwek. 'I spent S$3,000, more than I expected.'

She added: 'I was so tired just now, but now I'm very alert — and very confused. I just want to go home and eat something.'

A report in The Straits Times also said she saved up about $2,000 for the spree. Hope she has some spare cash handy to make up the shortfall.

According to this Straits Times Facebook post, another shopper spent a mind-boggling $8,000:

That's how much freelance fashion designer Bi Yue spent on the Balmain x H&M collection at Orchard Building this morning. She started queueing on Tuesday evening.More on the launch here: str.sg/ZEJ6

Now that's dedication — and also a lot of bags. And money.

Anyway, the rest of the CNA story is equally amusing (no disrespect to these shoppers' choice of how to spend their money or passion for fashion, though, of course), and we thought we'd share some choice quotes from shoppers with you:

1. Hu Hao Ran, student from China, who queued from Wednesday morning with four friends:

"I feel tired. (I didn't manage to get everything I wanted because) size is wrong; (there are) not enough sizes... (after spending $1,555) It was worth it."

2. Eldrin, who booked a room at the Concorde Hotel nearby so he could queue in comfort:

"This is actually our first time queuing for such an event so we didn't know what to expect. People inside are crazy. We joined the queue at 6am yesterday, and there were already 30 people ahead of us... I spent about $1,600. It was a fun experience."

3. Nat Tic, freelance fashion stylist, who dropped $2,000 on his purchases:

"We waited for so long. It was intense, everybody was crazy inside... But I did get my backpack — there are only 12 pieces in Singapore."

What would you spend thousands of dollars on? With that question, we shall leave you with a video (watch from the 29-second mark onwards) of the hundreds of people who decided the answer to it was "the H&M x Balmain collection":
