In an early Christmas gift to all full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) and Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen), Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) will increase the allowance by S$80 across all ranks.
Here are five things to know about your raise:
1. When will the pay raise start? It will commence tomorrow (Dec 1).
2. Lowest allowance of a NSF is $560: A recruit will receive a monthly allowance of S$560, up from the S$480 he currently receives.
3. Highest allowance of a NSF is $1,260: A lieutenant or inspector will receive S$1,260 a month - up from $1,180.
4. Is it only for the SAF folks? Nope, the increase applies to all NSFs and NSmen in the SAF, Singapore Police Force and Singapore Civil Defence Force.
5. Raise was $60 previously: The last time NS allowances were boosted was in 2012, when there was a $60 raise.
A bunch of NSmen and ex-regulars - who started the FB page The Reservist - have also come up with 12 things you can do with the $80 increase in NS allowance:
