Angler who hooked otter pup has turned himself in to police, assisting with investigations

The man who was caught on video to have hooked an otter pup while fishing illegally along a stretch of the Kallang River near Toa Payoh Lorong 8 on Oct. 20, has contacted the authorities and turned himself in.

This was after a video of the incident was shared widely online causing outrage.

On a post on their Facebook page, wildlife rescue group Animal Concerns Research and Education Society said the man is assisting the police with their investigations.

The extent of the otter pup's injury could initially be clearly seen.

In another video posted on the same day as the video showing the angler's illegal fishing antics, the otter pup that was baited can seen with a line and float extending from its right hind leg, which appears immobilised, as it limped along on its other three legs.

However, it has been confirmed that the hook and line has fallen off and the otter pup appears to have healed within two days.
