On polling day, Mothership.sg's stable of professional photographers followed 10 personalities around the island as they stepped out to cast their votes in the 2015 General Election. Here's what they have to say about why they are voting.
Ang Peng Siong, national swimming legend
"Voting is very important, because we are an independent and democratic nation. By casting your vote, you are doing your part to decide the future of our country."
Joscelin Yeo, national swimming legend
"I think it's good to be able to take ownership of making choices in the country that you live in. I believe that a nation rises and falls through its leadership so it's important to make a choice on who you believe should be in the leadership of the country.
It's been quite interesting to watch everything that has come up in the last couple of weeks, but I think you should also consider the last four years since the last election, make your observations also — what's been done and what's not been done — I think that's important to understand because you're voting a leadership into power that is going to affect policies, is going to affect the way the country is run, the things that will affect citizens. It's important to understand the weightiness of your decision."
"Understand what it is that the people stand for, the people who are running. Understand what they stand for, because that is important in your decision-making. Also, your decision is an active one you should make. No one should push you into the decision you make. So we have to do our duty, understand what we're making a decision on and don't just go by emotion."
Aleksandar Duric, national footballing legend
"Voting is important. It's your duty if you live in a democratic country, and it's also a privilege. Before I became a Singapore citizen I never had the chance to vote and it's so important because we are choosing the people who will lead the country forward into the future."
