On polling day, Mothership.sg’s stable of professional photographers followed 10 personalities around the island as they stepped out to cast their votes in the 2015 General Election. Here’s what they have to say about why they are voting.
Nicole Seah is a second-time voter. Previously, she voted in Joo Chiat SMC when she was contesting in the General Election 2011, but now she is voting in Marine Parade GRC this GE2015.
She flew back from Bangkok just before Nomination Day, and has been residing at her grandparents' place to look after them.
Her registered address is her grandparents' place.
She said: "It's easy to get caught up in the past nine days of hustings, but we must look at the past few years of work as well."
She also cannot understand how people can vote on small issues like cleanliness of estates, but fail to look at the bigger picture.
Seah said: "Our right to vote should never be used flippantly. What your vote means to you is a very personal decision. Your vote can send a signal. A mandate. A thank-you. Or a leap of faith."
"I always encourage family and friends not to spoil their vote, because every single person's decision will weigh in significantly on which candidate they choose for their ward, to represent them in parliament."
She also said there is a need for accountability and to have more voices in parliament. Having a different mindset, she said, doesn't mean you're a traitor or that you love Singapore less.
Can Singaporeans expect to see her back in politics again anytime soon now that she's looking to relocate back here?
"There are many ways to contribute to nation-building other than politics. I look forward to finding more avenues to help once I am back and settled in Singapore," Seah said.
