We got tired of writing and decided to ask a PAP candidate to contribute a piece.

What’s your wish for SG100? Mine is for Singapore to remain a strong and free nation, a clean, corrupt-free country, a multi-racial home for all Singaporeans. Our tomorrow depends on what we do today – now.

How did we get here? Let me start by sharing about my life. Mine is a story of an ordinary life blessed with extraordinary people in an exceptional country. That’s also the story of many Singaporean lives.

My parents are ordinary Singaporeans who believed that if they worked hard in this country, my siblings and I could have a better life. My father worked as a technician by day and taxi driver by night. My mother took on various jobs at various times from production operator, tailor for dresses and curtains to babysitter. Home was a 3-room HDB flat. We worked hard and luck was on our side, but hard work and luck alone are not enough.

The Singapore eco-system has made all the difference. We know that People’s Action Party (PAP) policies led to affordable housing, quality schools, good and affordable medical care, a thriving, vibrant economy, and a stable, peaceful and safe Singapore. The fact is there are very few places in this world for someone like myself, who is from an ordinary and minority background, to be offered so many good opportunities.

Now you may say that’s the past. Let’s talk about today. Like many young Singaporeans, I want more. We want better jobs so we can provide for our family and our parents as they grow old. We do not want to worry about our retirement. We want a better life. We want our Singapore to be a green, great place, an oasis in an imperfect world.

This spirit of wanting more is good for Singapore. It stems from a hope and a belief in Singapore and fellow Singaporeans. This passion to improve our lives guided our pioneer generation, the generation that built this country.

Most of that pioneer generation has passed on, but their spirit lives on. It is us, just us now. Where do we go from here? I do not have all the answers. But with all my heart, I want to work hard to search for it, build on what we have, and work hard at making things work so Singaporeans of tomorrow can also look back to say that theirs is also a story of a life blessed with extraordinary people in an exceptional country.

Yes, we want more. That means we also have to do more. I am proud to be PAP’s candidate for Sembawang GRC. I am even prouder to be associated with a party that has transformed the lives of Singaporeans before and now. We have plans such as SkillsFuture and Medishield Life to secure the future of Singapore. The future is ours to make.

My name is Amrin. I am with the PAP. I am here to play my part to keep our Singapore an exceptional place for SG100 and beyond.  You should too.
