We all know Singaporeans have an eye for 4 Digit Numbers detail, so we've gathered a list of relevant numbers that also conveniently shows the facts and figures of GE2015.
I spy with my little eye …..
0977 – The last four digits of total number of eligible electors for GE2015, which stands at a record 2,460,977. This number surpasses the previous record of 2,274,773 eligible voters for the 2011 Presidential Election.
0181 – There are 181 candidates vying for seats in the next Parliament of Singapore. This number is a record — every single seat is contested, another first in our half-century history.
8913 – There will be 89 elected Members of Parliament (MPs) for the 13th Parliament of Singapore. Excluding the non-elected MPs, this will be the largest Parliament size in the history of our country.
7410 – At age 74, ESM Goh Chok Tong is the oldest candidate for GE2015. This is also his 10th General Election, having first contested in 1976.
9115 – No set of numbers will be complete without the blessing of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Mr Lee sadly left us at age 91 earlier this year. If he was still around and running in GE2015, it would have been his 15th.
1965 – Because SG50 so #simisaialsoSG50 in 2015.
6014/3986 – 60.14% was the official number of votes garnered by PAP for GE2011. The Opposition as a bloc won 39.86%. All eyes will be on the new ratio come September 11 (more likely in the wee hours of September 12), but these are the latest statistics we have.
1316 – There will be 13 SMCs and 16 GRCs for GE2015, making up 29 electoral divisions. This compares to 12 SMCs and 15 GRCs for GE2011.
0303 – There are 3 electoral divisions that will see 3-way fights. The last time the General Elections saw this many multi-cornered fights was way back in 1991, when there were five. In that election, there was one candidate who had lost their electoral deposit in every one of those multi-cornered fights.
1272 – One for the Workers’ Party fans. Just before the dissolution of the previous Parliament, WP had controlled 1 GRC and 2 SMCs. They have 7 MPs and 2 NCMPs. Will this figures move up or down? Will there be a double-digit number somewhere to throw us off our tracks?
3223 – GE2015 will be 32nd time Singaporeans have been called to the polls, Including all by-elections, Presidential Elections and referendums. The first ever General Election was in fact held in 1948 (yes, the history of Singapore did not begin in 1965). GE2015 is also the 23rd election since independence.
0915 – There will 9 political parties contesting in GE2015, up from 7 in GE2011. This equals the record set in the 1984 General Elections, where the same number of parties contested.
0911 – Since 2001, September 11 has carried a special place in the calendar because of events on American soil. Depending on how the election results go, perhaps this date will add more special meaning to the history of our country.
XXXX – Go look at your polling card. Top right hand corner, to the left of the words “GE2015”. Your “personalised” Serial number is 4-digit. Some had said these are especially lucky numbers to first time voters.
