Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew is no more.
On August 11, 2015, the Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Defence wrote to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and informed him about his decision not to stand for re-election in the coming GE.
In other words, Lui will be retiring from politics.
But Lui did not give any reasons for his early retirement.
In his letter, Lui said that he broached this subject with PM Lee early this year, with PM and several senior Cabinet members persuading him to change his mind.
Lui said that he "thought the matter over carefully" and "have decided that I should stand by my original decision".
Lui's (un)popularity with netizens
Unfortunately, Lui was seen by many netizens online as the unfortunate scapegoat for all public transport woes.

In fact, there is a website page dedicated to Lui to highlight his mannerisms:
In his letter, Lui also alluded to the two major disruptions on the NSEW lines as "setbacks".
PM Lee's reply to Minister Lui
In his reply to Lui, PM Lee said that he has reluctantly accepted his decision and was disappointed that he did not succeed in changing Lui's mind.
PM Lee praised Lui for having "done very good work as Minister for Transport", adding that he has put his heart and soul into the task.
PM Lee added that Singapore has made "significant progress in public transport" but the job is not yet complete.
Here's PM Lee's Facebook post:
