Touching Singaporeans deep down inside, where only familial love can traditionally access, is this story about how more than 10 years ago, Singapore's second prime minister Goh Chok Tong took time out of his busy day running the country to reply to an email by DJ Jamie Yeo to encourage her to take the plunge and conceive.
Yeo recounted her life-altering story in an Instagram post, featuring a selfie she took with Goh during the Joo Chiat National Day dinner on August 2, where she was the emcee for the night.
According to Yeo, her fear a long time ago was that she would lose her job after becoming a mother. The potential loss of income was daunting since she was not well-off then.
Yeo then wrote an email to then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong to voice her concerns, as she had read an article in the newspapers about a speech that he had made on the government trying to convince women to have babies.
Goh replied, to her surprise, which left her immensely touched.
From The New Paper
Yeo, 38, told The New Paper: "Mr Goh said that he knew that there were difficulties and challenges that women faced and that it was hard to find the perfect solution for it but the Government was working on it.
"He didn't elaborate much on that but instead shared that his daughter, who was living in London at that time, was raising her kids without a helper.
"He said that in spite of that, she was very happy and fulfilled because at the end of the day, children are really such a joy."
Yeo has a four-year-old daughter, named Alysia, with her ex-husband Thorsten Nolte.
Goh has a pair of fraternal twins — a son, Jin Hian and daughter Jin Theng, who is married to a Briton, Lee Craven, and lives in London.
Yeo didn't ask Goh about the email when they met face-to-face, because she assumes he won't remember.
They are all living their respective lives happily ever after.
Still a better love story than Twilight.
The end.
