The man who harbours thoughts of being the "most powerful man on radio" is one step closer to being - the most powerful man on radio.
Glenn Ong was back in the airwaves on July 7 together with partner-in-crime Flying Dutchman Mark Van Cuylenburg on ONE FM 91.3's breakfast show.
Ong - being the Egoman and ultimately still Glenn Ong - threw major shade at his competitors in the morning drive time slot with this quote:
“My fiercely loyal listeners whom I meet everywhere I go, and those who follow me on my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, all of them have been asking me to return to radio from the time I left MediaCorp because the current morning show there is juvenile and crappy.
I told them I absolutely agree with them because those guys are used to entertaining seven-year-old kids." (emphasis mine)
Before we jump to any conclusions, let's take a look at the usual MediaCorp suspects:
Exhibit A: The Morning Lush with Rozz - Lush 99.5 FM
Probability of a juvenile show: Nah. Unless seven-year-olds can differentiate. GIF from GIF.
Exhibit B: The Bright Side with Sonia Chew - 987 FM
Probability of a juvenile show: 1%. Is this a trick question? It's 987 FM after all. And the "most powerful man on radio" won't be that literal. We hope.
Exhibit C: The Mike & Joe Xperiment - Gold 90 FM
Probability of a juvenile show: 1%. As they always say, old is gold. End of story. Besides, Joe Augustin once hosted the Class 95 FM breakfast show with the "most powerful man on radio".
Exhibit D: Breakfast with Andrew - Symphony 92.4 FM
Probability of being juvenile: 50%. Unless said seven-year-old plays the violin. That said, he is "Andrew Lim is Paul". And we now what happened to "Nicholas Lee is Ronnie".
Exhibit E: Muttons in the Mornings - Class 95
Probability of being juvenile: 95%. Both were from 987 FM (see Exhibit B) and only moved to Class 95 this year. And both offended the "most powerful man on radio" by throwing shade at those who left Mediacorp in an 8 Days interview. Among other things, they said 'there’s a reason the company (MediaCorp) didn’t bother to keep them (DJs who left).'
MediaCorp could, however, make Ong think twice about throwing more shade by moving his fiancee - Class 95 evening drive time DJ Jean Danker - to the morning show.
In other news, both SPH and Mediacorp have been scratching their own balls talking up their radio stations.

The biggest winner? Nielson.
